Dagger’s Debut EP:
The Mean Machine to be released on February 12, 2008.
Mexico City, January 14, 2008 – Dagger announces the release date for
their debut EP titled The Mean Machine. Co-produced by Jenny Bombo
(Las Ultrasónicas) and Dagger, the EP will be released on the
independent label Fucked Up Cat Records on February 12, 2008. With 7
tracks in English and Spanish that summarize their first four years of
their formation, the EP is full of high-energy rock n’ roll.
Recorded at Xtudio (Poncho Toledo - Los Concorde, La Lupita) and
FUC Records during November 2006 and early 2007, The Mean Machine
is able to weld the militant sound of classic hard rock and primitive
metal, flirting with powerful riffs of punk rock.
“We always felt different from the Metal scene in Mexico. We have never
been hardcore, closed minded metal heads. We enjoy Bad Religion as
we fall for Maiden. That’s why we wanted to release an EP that showed
more about who we are and not the traditional metal imagery” says Gaby
de la O, Dagger’s front woman. The band invited some talented Mexican
artists to look for a new concept for their debut EP. Among them,
Benjamin Estrada (Illustrator, Niño Zombi) responsible for the EP’s art
has worked with several punk-ska bands, and Alejandro Voorduin a
talented illustrator and independent film director was in charge of the
photo sessions.
Gaby de la O (lead vocals and guitar), Pablo Petrova (guitar and back
vocals) and Istericka (drums) have been playing in different festivals and
concerts since 2004 like Manifest, Monterrey Metal Fest II, Mexico City’s
Historical Downtown Festival and Lady Fest Monterrey. From a year of its
formation, their first demo received several positive reviews, considering
it one of the best Mexican Metal new comers.
The Mean Machine describes Mexico City’s lifestyle. The challenging
track “Beaner” is an ode for the guys that spend the day whistling to girls
that walk on the street; “Blood Red Kisses” relates a delirium arisen in
missing UTA, a popular Goth venue; “Mean Machine” is a song dedicated
to the hard-to-get fantasy of driving a muscle car in a city confined to
traffic chaos; “Caguameando en la calle” (Boozing on the streets)
describes what happens during an early Sunday morning soccer match;
and “Come Back To Me”, is a ballad that will make even the most
rebellious of punks sigh.
The Mean Machine will be released on February 12, 2008 through
Dagger’s Official Webiste. The purchase of this EP through the Web will
be accompanied with a bonus track. The release party will take place at
legendary counterculture venue Multiforo Alicia on March 1, 2008.
Tour locations and live dates to be announced shortly.

"From some hidden and rebellious neighborhoods in
Mexico City comes a good ass kicking in the form of
Dagger".
- Lucky, Sugar Buzz Magazine, California.
"One of the best new Metal talents!"
- R&R, Magazine, Mexico.
"They have dirty, crunchy tone to them (perhaps why I
keep thinking Black Sabbath) with a Rock sensibility
that makes the songs more memorable and
enjoyable than they would be otherwise. The
choruses are simple but effective with the chorus from
Black River being stuck in my head since I received
the demo"
- Chris, Metal Reviews, Canada.
"DAGGER shows us, that there's still room for heavy
metal in Mexico. And they could easily be a good
example of how a good heavy metal band should
sound".
-Toine van Poorten, MetalMaidens.com, The
Netherlands.
